At expeRHEEnce, a Candle Bar®, we want you to enjoy every moment of your candle—from the first light to the final glow.

Proper candle care helps your candle burn more evenly, perform beautifully, and most importantly, burn safely. Please follow these guidelines every time you light an expeRHEEnce candle.

Before Your First Burn

If you created your candle during an expeRHEEnce, allow it to fully cure before lighting it for the first time.

For best fragrance and burn performance, we recommend waiting 7–10 days after your candle is poured before burning.

Before lighting:

Place your candle on a stable, level, heat-resistant surface.
Make sure the area is free of drafts.
Remove any packaging, decorations, or other materials that are not intended to be burned.
Make sure the wax is free of matches, wick trimmings, dust, or other debris.
Trim the wick to approximately 1/4 inch before lighting.

The First Burn Matters

Your candle's first burn helps establish how it will perform throughout its life.

On the first burn, allow the wax to melt evenly across most or all of the surface of the candle before extinguishing it, while never exceeding the maximum recommended burn time of 4 hours.

This helps encourage an even burn and reduces excessive tunneling around the wick.

Depending on the size and shape of your vessel, reaching a full melt pool may take different amounts of time. Never continue burning a candle simply to achieve a full melt pool if it has already been burning for 4 hours.

Every Time You Burn

For the best and safest candle experience:

Trim your wick to approximately 1/4 inch before each burn.
Keep the wick centered and upright.
Keep the wax pool free from wick trimmings, matches, and debris.
Burn your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface.
Keep candles away from drafts, vents, ceiling fans, and strong air currents.
Keep candles away from curtains, paper, decorations, and other flammable materials.
Keep burning candles away from children and pets.
Never place a burning candle directly on furniture or another surface that may be damaged by heat.
Never move or handle a candle while the wax is liquid or the vessel is hot.

Maximum Burn Time: 4 Hours

Do not burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time.

Extended burning can cause the wick to become unstable, create an excessively large flame, overheat the vessel, and affect the candle's overall performance.

After extinguishing, allow your candle and wax to cool completely before trimming, relighting, touching, or moving the vessel.

Watch Your Flame

A properly burning candle should have a controlled, relatively steady flame.

Extinguish your candle immediately if:

The flame becomes unusually high;
The candle begins smoking excessively;
The flame repeatedly flickers without an obvious reason;
The wick develops excessive carbon buildup or “mushrooming”;
The wick shifts significantly off-center;
The vessel becomes excessively hot;
The vessel appears cracked, chipped, or otherwise damaged; or
The candle otherwise appears to be burning abnormally.

Allow the candle to cool completely. Trim and recenter the wick if appropriate and check for drafts or debris before relighting.

Do not continue using a candle in a cracked, chipped, or otherwise compromised vessel.

Never Leave a Burning Candle Unattended

This is our most important candle-care rule:

Never leave a burning candle unattended.

Always extinguish your candle before:

Leaving the room;
Going to sleep;
Leaving your home;
Allowing children or pets into the area without adult supervision; or
Doing anything that prevents you from safely monitoring the candle.

A burning candle is an open flame and should always be treated accordingly.

How to Safely Extinguish Your Candle

A candle snuffer (available for purchase) is a great way to extinguish your candle while minimizing disturbance to the melted wax.

If you do not have a snuffer, gently blow out the flame while taking care not to splash or disturb the hot wax.

After extinguishing:

Confirm that the flame is completely out;
Make sure the wick is no longer glowing;
Do not touch the melted wax;
Do not immediately cover the candle; and
Allow the candle and vessel to cool completely before handling.

Never use water to extinguish a candle. Water can cause hot wax to splatter and may damage or break a hot glass vessel.

Know When It's Time to Stop

Don't Burn It to the Bottom.

Discontinue burning your candle when approximately 1/2 inch of wax remains at the bottom of the vessel.

Burning a candle beyond this point can cause excessive heat to transfer to the bottom of the vessel and the surface underneath it.

Once your candle has reached the end of its burn life, extinguish it and allow it to cool completely.

And remember, your vessel's story doesn't necessarily have to end there.

Storing Your Candle

Candle wax and fragrance can be sensitive to prolonged exposure to heat, cold, direct sunlight, and intense light.

For best results:

Store candles in a cool, dry place;
Keep them away from direct sunlight;
Avoid prolonged exposure to excessive heat or freezing temperatures;
Keep candles covered when possible to help protect the wax from dust and debris; and
Store candles upright on a stable surface.

A temperature-controlled indoor environment is best.

Prolonged exposure to sunlight or extreme temperatures may cause wax to soften, discolor, separate, crack, or change cosmetically.

Because we use a coconut-soy wax blend, some natural variation in appearance may occur over time and does not necessarily indicate a defective candle.

Never Leave Candles in a Hot Vehicle

Please do not leave your candle inside a hot vehicle or other high-temperature environment for an extended period.

Wax may soften or melt when exposed to excessive heat.

Likewise, prolonged exposure to extreme cold may affect the wax's appearance or cause separation or cracking.

If your candle has been exposed to significant cold, allow it to return naturally to room temperature before lighting it.

A Note About Natural Wax

Our candles are made using a coconut-soy wax blend.

Natural wax can sometimes develop slight variations in texture, color, adhesion, or appearance as temperatures change. These cosmetic characteristics are normal and generally do not affect your candle's performance.

Every hand-poured candle is a little different and that's part of what makes yours uniquely yours.
